After a stellar start to his 2012 race season, earning three top-five finishes in his first-three events in the #9 Stanley Ford Fusion for Marcos Ambrose Motorsport and Fat Head Racing, 15-year-old Kentucky –native Ben Rhodes will attend the Sunday, April 1st, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series “Goody’s Fast Relief 500” at Martinsville Speedway (VA) as a guest of Marcos Ambrose and Richard Petty Motorsports.
The trip to the Virginia track will be the second time Rhodes will attend a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race this year with Ambrose. He was a guest at the March 18th race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
“I had a great time at Bristol a few weeks ago,” said Rhodes. “Even though Marcos’ race for the win was cut short early when he was swept up in a wreck, I learned a lot by being there. During the race I was up in the spotters’ stand with Tim Fedewa (Ambrose’s spotter) and that gave me a great view of the track and a different perspective than I am used to. I am looking forward to attending Martinsville this weekend.”
Rhodes has three races under his belt this year, all at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC), including a third-place finish in the UARA-STARS Late Model Stock season opener, which earned him the Rookie of the Race award. Attending Martinsville as a guest and spectator will give him a view of the track he will race at later this season.
“Martinsville is home to the big Late Model Stock race late in the year,” said Rhodes. “We are planning on entering the #9 Stanley Ford Fusion into that race, so being able to check out the track from a spectator perspective and learn from Marcos and the team on how to get around the place is going to be very valuable knowledge.”
