Legends Young Lions division driver Ben Rhodes headed to the Sportsdrome Speedway in Indiana to race in a combined-division event on Saturday, September 24th. After winning his heat race and starting on the outside pole for the feature, Rhodes crossed the finish line second, but first among the Young Lions drivers, adding another victory to his stellar 2011 season.

Rhodes and the team unloaded his Legends Car for practice after a rain delay, and was fast immediately when he took to the track.

“After the rains moved out, we were able to get on the track for practice,” said Rhodes. “The car was really good and I was happy with it. We decided to make some changes though to make it a bit better.”

With 15 cars total, Rhodes and the rest of the drivers drew for starting positions for the heat race. In his heat, Rhodes started third and won the heat.

The officials decided to do an invert up front, putting Rhodes on the outside pole for the feature. When the green dropped, he was able to get behind the leader, chasing him the entire race, even making a few attempts to get by, but Rhodes decided to not risk wrecking out, finishing second overall, but first for the Young Lions division.

“I tried to pass the leader clean, but just couldn’t get the run to do it,” said Rhodes. “We both almost wrecked on the last lap trying to battle for the win, but we were both able to keep going and finish first and second. I could have pushed it a bit harder, but I wanted to pass clean if I was going to get by. The car was good and we were able to add another Young Lions division win to our 2011 season since the other driver was a Pro driver.

“I want to thank my crew, my sponsors, family and fans for the support. It has been a great season, and we are not done yet in either the Legends Car or the Late Model. We have some big events coming up yet this year and I am looking forward to hitting the track again soon.”
